THREADING USER GUIDE
Plastic DeformationTroubleshooting
Premature Wear Cause Solution
• Excessive heat in cutting zone • Reduce RPM / Reduce depth
• Wrong carbide grade of cut / Check turned dia.
• Inadequate coolant supply
• Depth of cut too large • Use coated grade / Use harder grade
• Cutting speed too high • Apply coolant
• Nose radius too small • Reduce depth of cut /
• Cutting speed too high Increase no. of passes
• Infeed depth too small • Reduce cutting speed
• Highly abrasive material • If possible use insert with larger radius
• Inadequate coolant supply
• Wrong inclination anvil • Reduce RPM
• Wrong turned dia. prior to threading • Modify flank infeed / Increase depth of cut
• Insert is above center line • Use coated grade
• Apply coolant
• Reselect anvil
• Check turned dia.
• Check center height
Insert Breakage • Wrong turned dia. prior to threading • Check turned dia.
• Wrong grade • Use tougher grade
• Poor chip control • Change to M-Type / B-Type inserts
• Incorrect center height
and use modified flank infeed
• Check center height
Build Up Edge • Cutting edge too cold • Increase RPM / Increase depth of cut
• Wrong grade • Use coated grade
• Inadequate coolant supply • Apply coolant
• Incorrect cutting speed • Increase cutting speed
Vibration • Incorrect workpiece clamping • Use soft jaws
• Incorrect tool setup • Check tool overhang / Use
• Incorrect cutting speed
• Incorrect center height anti-vibration bars
• Increase cutting speed
• Check center height
